Welcome to the VIA Rail Canada Pensioners' Association Web Page.
Before I let you roam on our web site I wish to pay tribute to the pioneers in the
passenger rail services in Canada. Without those men and women who have dedicated
themselves to dispense comfort to those traveling by rail, be it at stations, on-board
services, sedentary employees or itinerary employees, there would never be a passenger
rail service in Canada. Already over 170 years in this transportation system have gone
by since the first liaison between Montréal and Laprairie. The rail system has gone
from a strip of metal over wooden rail to fast travelling trains (TGV) that the Canadian
Government has promised to VIA Rail for the Québec/Windsor corridor.
I wish to thank all those employees of the Canadian National Railways and/or the Canadian
Pacific Railways who have persevered in this service, which has resulted in the excellent
reputation inherited by VIA Rail. Thanks to those who today continue to strive in the
tradition established long ago.
Thanks to those who have preceded us. What would have been the purpose of our fidelity,
loyalty and devotion since you have retired if your employer has ignored or forgotten
you. Let us all be proud of our past at CN, CP and VIA Rail. We, the officers of VIA
Rail Canada Pensioners' Association, thank you and you may always count on us.
