At the last biennial national meeting held in June 2007, Donald Béchamp was elected National President. He assisted in re-activating the Québec chapter of the VIA Rail Canada Pensioners' Association in 1997 and shortly after was elected to the position of Vice-president.  His various responsibilities include inviting guest speakers, duties of the treasurer, assisting the secretary in issuing membership cards and more recently, creating and maintaining an effective and up to date web site.  He is also delegated as substitute for the Association on the VIA Rail Pension Board for the unionized pensioners. Donald was born in Capreol, Ontario.  His family moved to Montreal in 1946 where he continued his education.  He began his career with the Canadian National Railways in 1951 as trainman /Conductor then transferred to the VIA Rail team in 1987.  He retired January 1st, 1990.  Married since 1957 he and his wife Yolande are the proud parents of two wonderful daughters, Suzanne (Richard) and Louise (Luc).  Unfortunately, his wife passed away in April 2006. While at CN in 1979, Don participated in the formation of the Health and Safety Committee for the Montreal region, and in 1981 was co-chairman of that committee.  He held the same position after joining VIA Rail.  He was also very active in the Front Line Focus group with VIA Rail. He held various positions in the labor movement such as: 1978 - Local Legislative Representative, 1979 - Chairman, Québec Legislative Board, 1980 - Chairman, Québec Legislative Committee for the Canadian Railway Labour Association where he participated in preparing briefs for presentation to the Québec National Assembly, 1982 - Secretary, Canadian Legislative Board, In 1981 he attended the George Meany Center for labor studies in Silver Springs, Maryland. Lors de la dernière réunion biennale nationale, Donald Béchamp fût élu au poste de Président national. Il a participé à la ré-activation du chapitre Québécois de l'Association des Retraités de VIA Rail Canada en 1997 et peu après fut élu vice-président, poste qu'il occupe présentement.  Il est responsable entre autres des conférenciers, les responsabilités du trésorier, assiste la secrétaire à émettre les cartes de membre et plus récemmement, la création et la maintenance d'un site web effectif et à jour.   Il est également délégé comme substitut pour l'association sur le conseil des pensions de VIA Rail pour les retraités syndiqués. Donald est né à Capréol, Ontario. Sa famille déménage à Montréal en 1946 ou il poursuit ses études.  En 1951, il débute sa carrière au Canadien National comme agent de train/Chef de train et en 1987 quitte le CN pour se joindre à l'équipe de VIA Rail.  Il prend sa retraite le premier janvier 1990.  Marié depuis 1957, lui et son épouse Yolande sont fiers d'être les parents de deux merveilleuses filles, Suzanne (Richard) et Louise (Luc).  Malheureusement son épouse est décédée en avril 2006. Au CN en 1979, Donald a participé à la formation du comité de santé et sécurité pour la région de Montréal, et en 1981 il fut co-président de ce comité.  Il occupait le même poste à VIA Rail.  Également, il était très actif avec "Opération familiarisation première ligne" à VIA Rail. Il occupait différentes positions dans le mouvement syndicale tel que : 1978 - Représentant Législatif local, 1979 - Président - Conseil Législatif du Québec, 1980 - Président - Comité Législatif du Québec pour l'Association des syndicats de Cheminot du Canada où il participe à la préparation de mémoires pour présenter à l'Assemblée Nationale du Québec, 1982 - Secrétaire, Comité Législatif Canadien, En 1979, il assiste au programme d'études au Centre George Meany à Silver Springs, Maryland.
