***Meetings for 2009***

Everyone is back from summer vacation with tales of summer events enjoyed with their families and friends. Some members are already looking at southern winter vacation to escape our cold, wet and snowy winter months.

Meetings are still held on the second Wednesday of each month from 10:30 am to 11:30 am in the Customer services Board room at the Vancouver VIA station.  When they are unable to oblige us, the maintenance facilities are only too pleased to accommodate us in their Board room or Training room.

We encourage members visiting and those living in the greater Vancouver area to support the association with your presence at our monthly meetings. Members usually meet anywhere from a half hour before to an hour after and, depending on what the latest gossip is, you will still find people lingering long after the meeting ends.

A normal turn out is approximately twenty members minimum. A 50/50 draw is held each meeting and the winning member receives half of the proceeds.

We have a number of loyal members that support our chapter who live in the interior of B.C. or Alberta and are unable to attend the monthly meetings.  The President sends out a quarterly letter to these members along with the sick and shut-ins to keep them informed of what is transpiring at the local and national level for VIA’s retirees.

The overall membership for our chapter has grown considerably in 2008 which is very encouraging. Many members are now opting for the payroll deducation of one dollar per month. If you wish to join, an application form with options is included for your convenience in the Newsletter which is inserted in the December 2008 issue of the Vialogue.
